CENTRE
Central Australia or
Australia's "Red Centre", has to be the country's premier
destination for those seeking the ultimate outback
experience. The world famous landmark of Uluru (Ayers Rock)
as well as the other most noteworthy natural wonders of Kata
Tjuta (The Olgas) and Kings Canyon are simply the best known
attractions among the many contained in this remote, yet
incredibly rewarding arid wilderness.
Serving as an oasis in the
desert, Alice Springs is the green jewel of the outback and
the obvious choice
when
deciding on a base for impending expeditions. The facilities
of this modern centre may come as a surprise to those
expecting a dusty, three horse town. The tourist resorts at
Uluru and Kings Canyon are equally surprising, and also very
well equipped and comfortable. The other tiny towns of the
Red Centre add the soul to the experience, as seldom are
they not full of character, history, and friendly locals
keen for a chin wag and a beer.
